Getting Started with your Snappi Cloth Diaper Fastener:

Preparing your Snappi for use: STRETCH your Snappi diaper fastener before its first use. This stretching triggers the "memory" of the Snappi to return to its original size and in so doing, pulls the diaper together to the middle to allow for a snug fit. This is essential for the Snappi to work properly. This is done by holding the Snappi in the center with one hand and close to the end of the leg (not by the rings) and with the other hand, s-t-r-e-t-c-h a few times (10 or so). As you do this you should feel how the material "softens" or gets more elastic. Follow this stretching procedure with each leg. The Snappi is then ready to be used!

1. Hook left, securing the Snappi claw foot into the fabric of your cloth diapers.
2. S-T-R-E-T-C-H and hook right, securing the other foot into the fabric of your cloth diapers.
3. S-T-R-E-T-C-H down and hook the center foot to secure your Snappi cloth diaper fastener in place..

So your Snappi cloth diaper fastener has gone from a "T" shape to a "Y" shape. By doing this, the Snappi should be secure, the diaper will fit snugly and the baby should not be able to undo it. Place a cover over diaper and Snappi fastener. Make sure that your Snappi is ATTACHED SECURELY. It is important that the Snappi "leg" being attached is stretched as far as possible before hooking it into the diaper.

Caring for your Snappi: ALWAYS use a cover when using a Snappi fastener on your baby's diaper. Keep out of children's reach when not in use! Do not use your Snappi for longer than 6 months. Do not leave your Snappi lying in the sun as it is not UV resistant and this can reduce the effectiveness of the Snappi. Clean your Snappi in hot soapy water. Do not launder them with diapers in the washer as this may weaken the grip attachment. CAUTION: Any tear in the Snappi can lead to separation of a piece, presenting a possible choking hazard. Inspect your Snappi before each use and discontinue using immediately if there is any sign of cracking, tearing, breakage or wear of the teeth or any other parts. Do not cut your Snappi as this may cause tearing.

Q: How many Snappi Cloth Diaper Fasteners will we need?

A: Really, this is going to vary from one family to the next and will depend entirely on how organized you are. For example, are you the type of person to set something down, and then forget where you put it? Do you misplace your keys often? Do you typically put your cell phone in a different spot after every call, and then wonder where the heck it is when you need to use it again?

If this sounds like you, you'll probably need more Snappi's than a family that is very organized and not likely to loose or misplace a Snappi or two. Once you factor in the additional loss of memory that occurs right after childbirth (those hormones are a crazy thing!) it can never hurt to have a handful of Snappi fasteners on hand. A good starting point is 4-6 Snappi fasteners, as you can always use 2 by the change station and 2 in the diaper bag. Also, it is highly recommended that if you use your Snappi daily it should be replaced every 6 months in order to prevent tearing or breakage of your Snappi.
