Another beauty of these packages is that even if you decide prefolds are not the right cloth diapers for you, you haven't invested that much into your purchase and your diapers do not have to go to waste (or our landfills!). Regardless of the type of diapering system you are using, we highly recommend
having a handful of prefolds on hand as you will find many uses for these
diapers. Prefold cloth diapers can be used as diapers, burp cloths, changing
pads, diaper doublers (infant size), pocket diaper inserts and they make the BEST dust & cleaning rags when your baby is potty-trained. You just can't go wrong with prefolds!
Included in your package is the Bummis User Guide ~ Washing and Using Cloth Diapers, which offers comprehensive washing and folding help for parents that are new to using cloth diapers. This will help get you off to the right start with prefolds! (Please note, these recommendations are for PREFOLD cloth diapers or true cotton or hemp cloth diapers only. Instructions will vary for diapers containing polyester or PUL covers - Fuzzi Bunz, Happy Heiny's, BumGenius. Soaking these diapers is NOT recommended).
Our Infant-Sized Prefold Kit comes complete with enough diapers and covers to go 1-2 days between washing. No need to wash more often than this! Our Regular-Sized Prefold Kit contains 18 prefolds, which is generally enough for every 2 days for an older child, depending on your baby. Many parents ask us what else they may need when purchasing our packages. We would suggest an extra 2-3 cloth diaper covers. Most parents find these helpful just to have on hand to ensure you always have a clean and dry cover available. If you are on a tight budget, however, and trying to get by with as little as possible, the only other item you will need is appropriate detergent and, if you so choose, a diaper pail. Your diaper pail doesn't need to be fancy - any garbage can with a well-fitting lid will do. Rubbermaid containers work well and can be reused after your diapering days are long gone. We love being able to give items a sceond (or third!) use.
Parents always ask us, "What else will I need?!". The only other "necessity" is the diaper pail, a washing machine and suitable detergent. With our cloth diaper kit you are set to go from day one, however, a few other items do tend to make the cloth diapering experience a bit easier (and less messy!). We suggest:
